Founded as the black student union in 1967, but changing its name to Igwebuike in 1985 after a massive movement to create the Multicultural Center, Igwebuike aims to celebrate our rich and diverse heritage, promote awareness of issues within the African American community, and provide social, educational and professional opportunities to support our members. Translated from Igbo language, Igwebuike means"In Unity There is Strength". Our club holds this name to remember our African heritage, honor the challenges of our elders and inspire unity among our peers. Unity, fellowship and community are major goals of Igwebuike today. Other goals of Igwebuike include: setting a good example for one another, as well as for our African-American community, recruiting current and prospective students, and retaining our membership.
